Today, we are very happy to bring you an exclusive review of the most anticipated Gentle Giant LTD Star Wars release in 2009!  With special thanks to Gentle Giant LTD we present to you the first in hand review and photo shoot of the Delta Squad Clone Commandos from Star Wars: Republic Commando. These will be coming out next month to collectors worldwide! In this review, we had the pleasure of using a set of pre-production samples. These samples will be identical to the production pieces coming soon.

Over the years Gentle Giant has received many requests for the Delta Squad Clone Troopers from the Lucasarts video game Republic Commando to be made. In June of this year, Gentle Giant announced it would grant the wishes of the dedicated Star Wars collectors world wide and produce this set in its ever popular Mini Bust format.

The Republic Commandos were offered to 4 locations across the globe, as well as directly to Gentle Giant's Premier Guild Members. There will also be a strictly limited edition box set of all 4 busts made available exclusively at www.GentleGiantLTD.com and will be coming out early in 2010 and may even include something special that you can not get anywhere else!

Delta Squad was an elite heavily armored clone commando unit that carried out demanding missions for the Grand Army of the Republic during the Clone Wars. The unit played instrumental roles in the Battle of Geonosis as well as in the lead up to the Battle of Kashyyyk.

Consisting of four hardened, well trained commandos...

BOSS, also known as RC-1138, and Delta-38, was a clone commando in the Grand Army of the Republic during the Clone Wars and Imperial commando of the Imperial Army. He was nicknamed Boss by his fellow clones, and was the sergeant of Delta Squad. As with all the Commandos, he is limited to 1,300 pieces.  650 going to  PBM,  100 to Forbidden Planet,  100  for Hot Toys Japan,  250 to Gentle Giant Premier Guild Members single and 200 for Gentle Giant Premier Guild Members for box sets.

Our first set of composites shows the progression of Boss from concept design, to initial sculpt and early prototype. Gentle Giant has been working on these for over 18 months. Like other GG products, they all start with pen and paper with the concept drawing. With Boss, you can see that final product stayed very close to the concept drawing and early sculpts.

All of these Mini Busts are fantastic, super detailed and quite large! The detail that was put into this set is exceptional. The weathering, the battle damage, the paint applications and sculpt are all fantastic.  The package is the same for all four commandos so while we won't comment on each one, we will show images of them all. The box is a cube that measures approx 10x10x10.

Each commando sports the logo of whose exclusive it is along with the usual window box and full color artwork.

FIXER, also known as RC-1140, and Delta-40, was an elite clone commando in the Grand Army of the Republic during the Clone Wars. Although he hated the use of nicknames, he was known as Fixer to the other commandos in his squad, because of his talent for fixing and slicing all things mechanical. Unlike his fellow squad members who had developed distinct personalities, Fixer was a gruff, by-the-book clone. Fixer was often the one urging his squad onward during a mission. As a dedicated parts geek, Fixer could handle any type of repairs. Vehicle or equipment repairs could be handled as long as the parts were there.

Fixer is the Japanese exclusive with  650 going to  Hot Toys Japan, 100 to PBM,  100 to  Forbidden Planet,  250 to Gentle Giant Premier Guild Members single and 200 for Gentle Giant Premier Guild Members for box sets.

SEV, also known as RC-1207 and Delta-07, was a clone commando and a sharpshooter in Delta squad during the Clone Wars. He was often referred to by his nickname of Sev, especially by his squad mates, and was well known for his sadistic sense of humor. Sev, allegedly, was given this name due to his love of severing an enemy's limb or body part. Sev aided the Republic in a number of missions, fighting on planets such as Geonosis, Coruscant, Skuumaa, Mygeeto, Dorumaa, and finally Kashyyyk, where he went missing in action. Sev completed many Black Operations for the Republic--covert missions typically involving activities that were highly secret due to questionable ethics and legality.

Sev is the UK Exclusive with 650 for Forbidden Planet, 100 to PBM,  100 to  Hot Toys Japan, 250 for Gentle Giant Premier Guild Members single, and  200 for Gentle Giant Premier Guild Members for box sets.

SCORCH, also known as RC-1262, or Delta 62, was a clone commando in the Grand Army of the Republic during the Clone Wars. Among the commandos of Delta Squad he was often referred to as Scorch. He was considered to be Delta Squad's wise guy, and was often chided by RC-1140 known as Fixer, the squads' unofficial second in command. However, most of Scorch's comments were aimed at Sev, and he was not afraid to talk back. Scorch was the squads' demolitions expert, and loved annihilating anything that came in reach.

Scorch is the US exclusive with  800 for Gentle Giant LTD,  100 for  PBM,  100 for Hot Toys Japan,  100 for  Forbidden Planet UK,  and 200 for the Gentle Giant Premier Guild Members for box sets.

Out of all the commanders, Scorch seemed to have the most buzz at  the GGC forums because he seemed a bit "blue" compared to the in game and artwork images we have seen of him. As you can see below in the progression images, Gentle Giant noticed the color difference and the final product does indeed sport the correct dark gray or charcoal color that we are all familiar with.

After spending close to 30 hours with this foursome this weekend and shooting over 400 images to get to the 18 composites we posted here, we still have yet find anything negative to say.

All the time and effort that the product development team put into this set is obvious. Nothing was overlooked and these will be a great addition to any collection. The singles are sold out at most places at this point but when they are released next month, some are sure to pop up at the respected sites and stores.

Thanks again to Gentle Giant LTD for giving us the opportunity to present these to  the collecting community and stay tuned to GGC in the next few days for a very cool announcement that the collecting community is sure to enjoy. You can jump in and discuss the commandos in our forums, and while you are  there, be sure to submit your collection for the Official Gentle Giant Collection of the Month for November!
